The COMECE commission of EU Catholic bishops issued a declaration, adopted Oct. 16 and published Oct. 19, urging the EU and member states to keep AI "at the service of the human person, the common good and peace." It sets out eight principles, including human dignity, accountability, non-discrimination, democracy, and contribution to peace, to apply at home and promote internationally. The assembly opened with a Brussels presentation of Pope Leo XIV's encyclical Magnifica Humanitas on AI.
